March 19, 2008: Council of Industries General Meeting. Jay Leonhardy, Project Manager for YouthWORKS kicked off the meeting with an overview of the City of Richmond’s Summer Youth Program for 2008. Open to Richmond residents only for youth ages 15 -21, the program provides “a career path experience and the opportunity to earn up to $1000 over the summer.” The program aims to provide up to 500 Richmond teens a summer job. Companies can provide jobs and/or contribute to the program so that youth may be employed at various jobs throughout the city.

Thank you goes out to CHEVRON RICHMOND REFINERY who gave Jay Leonhardy a check for $75,000 at the Meeting. Also, COI member company BROOK STREET donated $5000, other companies – RICHMOND PACIFIC RAILROAD, SIMS METAL, COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT will be participating in the program also.

BrookStreet, Chevron, Richmond Pacific Railroad and SIMS Metal committed to sponsoring youths this summer. In addition the COI will be sponsoring one youth, and Marriott committed to hiring five youths for the summer.
