You
may be seeing news reports again about the legal challenge
to our Energy and Hydrogen Renewal Project brought by environmental
activists. I wanted to make sure you had the latest information
on this subject.
The Court of Appeals yesterday published an opinion ruling
against the City of Richmond and Chevron holding that the
Environmental Impact Report (“EIR”) was insufficient
in providing information concerning the types of crudes
that we would continue to process and on the plan that we
would undertake to mitigate greenhouse gases. We are currently
reviewing the Court’s lengthy opinion, as well as
our options going forward.
Needless to say, we are disappointed with the Court’s
opinion. We continue to believe that both the evidence and
the law amply support the adequacy of the City’s EIR,
and that the Project’s environmental and reliability
improvements are significant.
You may be certain that we will continue to work hard on
the Project. Now more than ever, we will continue to focus
on safe, reliable and environmentally sound operation of
the refinery.
