PORT OF RICHMOND WELCOMES AMERICAN HONDA

 

Arrival of First Auto Carrier Ship – “Maiden Voyage”

 

A Port Project Bringing Economic Development & Jobs To Richmond

Who &

What:               The Port of Richmond announces the arrival of the first vehicles for the Honda Port of Entry Project.  Officials of Honda will be joined by Richmond business and community leaders to celebrate this milestone in bringing Honda back to Richmond.  The Honda Project will bring upwards of 200 jobs and is estimated to generate $85M to the local economy over a 15 year term.

 

When:              Tuesday, April 20, 2010, 7:30-9:00 a.m.

 

Where:             1301 Canal Boulevard, Richmond at the Historic Cafeteria Building (East Hwy 580, exit at Canal Boulevard, go south on Canal Boulevard and into Point Potrero Marine Terminal). Parking and Shuttle service will be provided at the Cafeteria Parking lot.

·        Arrival of first Honda vehicles driven off car carrier ship to port parking lot.

·        Honda Port of Entry Project Capital improvements including a new 84 rail car capacity facility, roadway improvements, berth upgrades, etc.

·        Views of San Francisco and Oakland skylines, historic Ford Building, historic “Rosie the Riveter” shipyard buildings and the Red Oak Victory Ship.

Arrival of the Frontier Ace and Polaris Ace at the Port of Richmond

On Tuesday, April 20th, the Port of Richmond welcomed the first of two ships into the new Honda Port of Entry. On Tuesday, the Frontier Ace arrived, carrying 2,900 vehicles, followed later in the week by the Polaris Ace, with an additional 900 cars. The Port’s contract with American Honda Motors and AutoWarehousing (AWC) will provide $88 million in revenue over the next 15 years, as well as 200 family-wage jobs.
